Jaolay is a brand created by Rodney Wilson and founded in Providence, Rhode Island. However, its roots are deeply embedded in Monrovia, Liberia. Jaolay serves as a symbolic bridge between his Liberian heritage and African American upbringing, Jaolay is more than just a brand—it's Rodney's creative expression, finding its manifestation through his three major artistic languages: Photography, Film, and Fashion. The name "Jaolay" derives from Rodney's mother's Krhan name in Liberia, meaning "Look There." The significance of Jaolay is further reinforced by its logo, featuring an English Y and a J from the Bassa Vah alphabet—a nod to Rodney's grandmother's Bassa tribe. In essence, Jaolay is Rodney’s personal history, cultural roots, and artistic vision.
